We only have a verbal agreement, no lease or contract to guarantee our continued use of the track and the farmer cannot give us any of the above. We do not even have planning permission.
Our new National standard facility will be built on ground adjacent to the ATV centre at Blackwater just 2 miles off the A30 from the Chiverton Cross roundabout and 1/2 mile from Mount Hawk Skate park. We expect to start work within the next 2 months after soil samples have been approved and we have signed our lease. We have a target date of September 4th when we host Round 7 of the south west regional series. We are optimistic that the basic track and facilities will be complete and land scaping and planting can be started in spring 2006. We have a strong club and there is no doubt that the money required to build the new venue will soon be raised. The new track will be open 3 nights a week instead of the one evening we are presently allowed.
Our ambition within the next 5 years is to run a round of the national series, may be a double header to make your trip all the way down here worth while. After a 3 year search for a site and 16 1/2 months of planning limbo on the 19th March 2005 Cornwall BMX Racing Club finally won planning permission and the right to build a new track.
It has been a struggle to keep our members enthused in recent years on the dilapidated and deteriorating Kelsters farm Raceway that we have been using for the last 22 years. We would love to stay where we are and up grade our track to national standards but our track has 5 corners, 6 straits and is too narrow in places to even be regional standard. The farmer would be happy for us to up grade but we have no security of tenure at Kelsters farm.
The ATV Centre Blackwater
We applied for planning on the 19 November 2003 and we were told by the planning officer that the process would take 8 weeks, Yeah Right!!
In July 03 we attended a planning committee meeting held at Pydar house where our application was heard. We gained the full support of the committee for our new venue. We are entering the final stages of planning and at present negotiating with the environmental department at Carrick over the conditions of our application.
The land survey and samples have now been completed and the clubs solicitor is close to finalising the lease with the A.T.V.Center.
£8000 award from Cory Environmental. The first of our funding has been awarded to the club and our next task is to get the money match funded. Once this is done we need to start the entrance as soon as we can. Several company's have been approached for prices. Thanks go to Natilly Marshall for applying for the grant and being successful.
February 2006
After 2 ½ years after applying for planning we have finally started working on the new site, We are currently clearing the vegetation from the site before the small mammals and birds start nesting.
On 15th November 2005 Cornwall BMX Racing Club gained final Planning permission for our long awaited new track. After the disappointment of not being able to use the original entrance we applied for planning permission for a new entrance that was approved on Tuesday. I would like to thank Tim Price who has been instrumental in pushing this application through so that we can get on with the building of the track. I will give you a further update at the Christmas do.
